Their desktop website I mean. All you filter addicts can breathe easy. If I am not mistaken they actually added a bunch of more filters. So what am I doing on the Instagram website of all things when it’s purely a mobile app driven scene?
I am on a social media detox. Which is quite unlike the more dramatic (and annoying) ‘I am deleting my Facebook account forever’ call for attention. My reasons were exactly the opposite in fact. I was trying to avoid attention. The benefit of a detox is you get to take a step back from the social media circus without being a pariah. I might not log into to Facebook anymore but if someone informs me that they have messaged me a link or shared some info over a private message I might be inclined to give it a look see. Odd as it may be, I have done the same even someone calls me to inform me that they have sent me a ‘friend’ request. (I think it sounds a lot creepier in my head than it actually is)
So Instagram. No clunky border to the images and that annoying header with the rotating photos got trashed as well. (Yay!) They seem to have adopted a minimalist theme focused purely on showcasing photographs. Instagram is not Flickr or 500px nor do they try to be. So minimalism on a website that is little more than a glorified gallery (at least in its desktop avatar) makes sense. Would I have visited the Instagram website had I not been on a social media detox? I couldn’t say.
I do plan to end the detox. Too much of everything is always bad for you, even a healthy diet 🙂 I was off social media not off Photography. Over the last few months I shot some great fashion shoots with upcoming designers here in Pune and Bombay. It is always great to be able to work with models who bring a touch of elegance in front of the camera. Once the detox ends, I will be sharing this on my Instagram account as well as my Facebook Page along with some crazy behind the scenes images. If you don’t follow me on FB or Insta and (and you aren’t on a detox yourself) what are you waiting for? Links below!
